Day 8 Song of Solomon 8 Song of Solomon 8:1 O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! When I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised. 2 I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate. 3 His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me. 4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please. 5 Who is this that comes up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee. 6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. 8 We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for? 9 If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar. 10 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favor. 11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; everyone for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver. 12 My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred. 13 Thou that dwell in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it. 14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices. How do you know when you are loved? Love is the strongest emotion. It transcends every other emotion and leaves them lying in the dust. Love conquers fear, doubt, and hate. Love makes friends of enemies. You do not need to say anything in the presence of love. Solomon brings this book to a close with a powerful statement of what love is. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned. It was love that created the earth, universe, put the stars in place, and created you. It was love that sent a Savior to free you from the bondages of sin. It was love that died on a cruel cross, bled, and died so you could be free to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. It was love that raised Jesus from the grave. It was love that ascended into heaven forty days after the resurrection, and it will be love who returns to take you to himself. God is love. Jesus is love. The Holy Spirit is love. Together they are one, and they are love. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. When you accept Jesus’ death on the cross, salvation is yours. Heaven is yours. Eternal life is the result of love. There is nothing more powerful than that. Solomon put God’s love for you in a song and called it marriage. He showed God’s intimate love for you through the many stages of life shared with a spouse. He showed that even in times of doubt and fear, when trouble comes to a marriage, God is still there to take care of you. God will never leave you or forsake you. God loves you. His love is unconditional. God’s love is eternal. Have you accepted God’s love for you? Have you accepted his Son, Jesus, as your Savior and Lord? Let’s pray: Father, thank you for your love that transcends everything in my life. Help me to show your love to everyone I meet, so they too will know your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
