This is not a rerun: I'm posting early so I can head to Nashville for a concert. Yes, I just said that Friday, but it's time to return for another concert. This time, it's Dale Watson. Unlike Los Lobos, whom I hadn't seen in 30 years, it's more 30 days for Watson.
So before I go here's today's entry on my list of favorite southpaw musicians.
#3: David Byrne (Talking Heads)
I promised @JohnRoberts there would be nothing even remotely related to a surprise today, and I hope I delivered.
The lyrical brains of Talking Heads was also their lead vocalist. His voice is about as quirky as some of the lyrics to Talking Heads songs, too. That's okay: it was a perfect marriage until it all fell apart in 1991, with lawsuits and all other ugly things. The band did put their differences aside to graciously accept their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 (with Chris Frantz' wonderful comment, "Thanks for giving this band a happy ending").
Earlier this year Byrne said that he had no interest in a Talking Heads reunion; which, although disappointing, is also refreshing. There's gold in them there reunion tours (cough-cough-Eagles, who have tickets in excess of $700 retail for their show here), and Byrne isn't biting. Good for him.
David Byrne
Born David Byrne, May 14, 1952, Dumbarton, Scotland (age 65)
Academy Award - 1988 (The Last Emperor soundtrack)
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - 2002
Here's Byrne doing his famous left-handed arm chop in the classic Talking Heads video:

For the first time ever (as far as I know) a full length video version of "Once In A Lifetime" by "Talking Heads"... :-) There was almost a minute of the ful...
