Since Elvis Presley died on August 16th, 1977, Turner Classic Movie Channel showed several of his movies that day and I recorded all of them. I have most of them on VHS tapes but I rely now on my Smart TV to DVR whatever I want to watch. So, this evening I watched "Kid Galahad." I watched "Viva, Las Vegas" last night. I have three more to go. There has been a lot of reminders on the TV this month about Elvis. I jotted down some things, like I always do. Elvis was inducted into the U.S. Army on January 20, 1958, but he was given a 60-day deferment to film the movie, “King Creole,” after some people accused the government of tying to ruin his career. In the army, Elvis made about $78 a month. He made a million dollars the previous year. He didn’t receive any special treatment and he didn’t expect any. He pulled KP duty like everyone else. His mother died of a heart attack, at the age of 46 while Elvis was in the army. He also met Priscilla while he was in Germany. For two years he did not make any appearances, but his fans did not forget him. His first film after he got out of the army was “G.I.Blues,” one of my favorites. Then, his father remarried and he not only had a step mother, but he also had 3 step brothers. He made 27 films in the 60s. Does anyone know who or where Elvis’s step brothers are? I think I will research that.

Did you know Kid Galahad was a remake of a 1937 movie starring Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart?

No, I didn't. That's interesting. I would love to see the original. I suppose it's out there somewhere on Turner Classic Movies.

I was a huge Elvis fan and remember everything you mentioned. I saw him in person in the New York Coliseum and I couldn't talk for days after it from screaming so much. I went with 5 other girlfriends and we had a ball.

@ramapo17 I had one opportunity to see him when he came to Richmond, Virginia. My husband was supposed to get the tickets and delayed. The show was sold out by the time he made the effort. It's nice that you got to see him in person.
