How can you thaw the frozen heart of someone you love?

You cannot thaw someone's heart frozen due to your having made him/her deeply disappointed. It's my thought only. Long separation of two without any news from one of them has made the heart frozen. A year later they met but one of them decided not to be back. No matter how hard she tried to convince that it wasn't all her/his fault. What's your take on this? Did someone ever make you broken hearted?
