Thanks to more than 15 forest and grass fires burning in Oregon, this was the dramatic red sun that greeted me when I looked out the back door at about 7 AM on Tuesday.
The air did improve some, but the winds are shifting to bring smoke back our way for the weekend with temps in the mid 90s.
On the south Oregon coast, near the California border, the town of Brookings is threatened with the Chetco fire that has burned over 100,000 acres now. A stand-by evacuation order has been issued for the 6000 or so residents there. That fire is the number one priority in the country now, but is expected to burn until October! Lightning started the fire on July 12th.
It would be nice if we could shift some of that rain from Hurricane Harvey up this way and ease the floods predicted for Texas.
Here's hoping neither of these disasters causes major havoc with people and their homes.
Are you anywhere near Harvey's path?

Sorry James never heard of Harvey's path. Where I lived before I moved to where I live now there were fires every summer. Once not fair from here there was a fire and the smoke was horrible afterwards.

It has been upgraded to a Category 4 now with winds of 130 mph. Scary!

@JamesHxstatic Category 4! - that's dangerous. I hope it doesn't make land fall.

It is might interesting that we seem to experience feast or famine when it comes to weather. You need water, but can't get it. Texas has too much water, but can't get rid of it. Such a shame that we don't have a nationwide grid system of water pipes that allow us to transport water from one area of the country to another.

Yes, it would be good to see clean air again. Now the storm is downgraded, but days of heavy rain and flooding are predicted for Texas and Louisiana too.

No, but we'll probably get rain from it. We usually do.

The Texas rain would be a big help there and wouldn't it be nice if we were in control of that! We have friends there hoping they will still have a house when it is over.
