Wealth Without Work

This was the first thing that Gandhi listed on his “Seven Sins of the World” list. So, I’m trying to imagine what he might have had in mind. Of course, there are some persons in this world who INHERIT wealth. For instance, ROYALTY. I recently watched a few documentaries on Queen Elizabeth of England. It was quite obvious that WEALTH was inherited in this royal family. However, there is WORK involved in being the Queen. She is obligated to do an amazingly LONG list of Royal duties. Appearances, in particular. She has a VERY heavy schedule to keep and she isn’t young anymore. In fact, her husband, has officially RETIRED from Royal duties, I heard. He evidently doesn’t care to keep up with such a busy schedule of things anymore and I can’t blame him. Most people consider that the Queen, is the one who is in charge of the government, but is she really? The Prime Minister has a lot of duties pertaining to the running of the government, along with Parliament, of course. I have also considered Sports figures who make MILLIONS of dollars for PLAYING A GAME. Yes, again, there is “work” involved. Practice and possible injury is also involved, but REALLY? Who thinks that sports figures are overpaid? There are also LOTTERY WINNERS. Just this week, a woman won over $400 MILLION after taxes. She had a job. She was working, but quit her job immediately. She didn’t, however, WORK for the $400 million. She bought a lottery ticket. She did, no doubt, have to stand in line for a while, but…. What else can you think of that involves WEALTH WITHOUT WORK? I’m sure I could come up with a few more instances, but hopefully you can help me out here. Oh, I did think of one more. ACTORS who are paid millions of dollars for acting. When I think about all the people in this world who REALLY WORK hard just to put food on the table for their families and then compare them with those who became wealthy WITHOUT working, it makes me realize what a REALLY unfair system exists in this world. And it shouldn’t be like that. There should be an equal sharing of the necessities of life. You might want to watch this 3-minute video to see why the world is like it is today and what is going to change things for the better. Please tell me what you think about all of this.

The Queen possesses 5% of this planet, and she works very hard for it. I have no chance to become King of England though. She is followed by the King of Saudi Arabia, who also works very hard for it. The third one is the Pope. It is more interesting, as in theory any Catholic can be elected Pope, and I am a Catholic.

@IreneVincent The problem is that only the College of Cardinals is voting, and these cardinals are usually voting for one of them, but it might change.

@topffer I know. Oh well. Let me ask you this. If you were Pope, what would you try to change in this world to make it better? Do you agree with all the Catholic teachings?

If you really think about it, any way of getting rich (materially) often involve some sort of work and sweat. Even writers who sell words + imagination have to work long hours. Politicians might get there faster than others, selling dreams.

I'm a writer, actually a published novelist but the money is NOT rolling in for me. Writing a novel does take work, long hours. I'm working on a second novel now. And I'm writing my memoirs for my grandchildren and also a book of poetry. The poems are already written, I just need to get them published.

@YrNemo I agree. I tried to read "Catcher in the Rye" that I had picked up at a Thrift Store for a Dollar. I read a couple chapters and ended up throwing it in the trash.

@IreneVincent With writers, some got luckier than others, have you noticed? I read some books, truly good, but life passed it by. Others, lots of them junks, but become best sellers. I can't understand this.
