Sometimes I can't help but laugh at the lyrics of "older" music. Granted, the music that my parents grew up with seems to have more meaning than a lot of the trash that's considered "music" these days. Still, there are some songs that just set me giggling as I ponder the words... We went out to dinner tonight and the restaurant had music playing in the background. I was quietly singing along when I got to wondering, was it a common thing for women to go, walkin' down the street, singin', do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do, looking for a husband? Was do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do code for something that I'm not aware of?

Yes. Watch Stripes and all shall be revealed. (If you haven't seen that movie, the unit marches to "Do Wah Diddy.") I guess you don't even want to know who put the bomp in the bomp bomp bomp......
The single debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 on August 7, 1961, and remained for twelve weeks, peaking at # 7[3]. Mann's version did not chart in the UK, though...

I really agree with you. Oldre lyrics have better message than the modern lyrics. Though not all of them but most of them.

Hubby has an alarm on his phone that sings "wake up! wake up!" My son commented and said, "They can turn anything into a song!" Sorta the way it is these days...
