1967 – Spoiler alerts A Korean movie that is clearly a blatant rip-off of just about every Japanese Godzilla movie ever made. Yongary is a standard giant fire breathing dinosaur (with the metal flame thrower tube in the mouth clearly visible as it generates the pyrotechnic effects. It escapes from the polystyrene bowels of the Earth after missile tests in the West create earthquakes that wake it up. A Korean astronaut (yes, they have a space-ship) is sent to investigate the damage area from space, interrupting his wedding night. Why conventional warplanes can’t track the monster is never made clear. An annoying child gets in on the act too. This kid has stolen a ray gun from a science lab and points it at people for a laugh. Fortunately the gun only makes people feel itchy rather than turning them to soup. He even uses the gun on Yongary and the creature enjoys it, joining the brat in a bizarre rock and roll dance scene. Yongary likes the taste of petrol, so he (everyone assumes he is the correct gender) targets an oil refinery despite some chemicals used there weakening it, so it is eventually killed with toxic waste. Sadly it doesn’t get to stomp on the annoying kid with the itch-ray first. Come back Godzilla, all is forgiven. Arthur Chappell

Dis this movie cost 50 cents to make? Even Godzilla is reminiscent of King Kong.
