I Survived

I just wanted to check in and let all of you know that I survived the ablation procedure I had done on my vein in my right leg. It was not a pleasant experience and I am not enjoying having to get up and walk around every half hour. I am not used to popping up and down like that.
Tomorrow I have to go back for an ultrasound to check to make sure the vein was closed correctly and to also make sure I'm not developing a DVT. Next week I have to go through it all over again with my left leg, so altogether it will be three weeks of recovery. I'm not supposed to be climbing stairs, which is a bit of a problem considering I live in an upstairs apartment. The doctor said to lead with my left leg so I'm not bearing down on the right one, but I'm not sure what I'm expected to do once both legs are out on commission. I will ask tomorrow in case they want to reschedule the next ablation.
Anyway overall the procedure wasn't too bad, definitely uncomfortable and the post-op instructions are a pain. I will be glad when I can shower again in three days.

Why is your left leg so soon instead of waiting for the right one to be healed?
. Sorry it wasnt pleasant.

I was wondering the same thing. I have no clue why they are doing it so soon. It might not be feasible considering I live upstairs and they said not to put weight on the leg when climbing. Honestly I'm not even sure I want to go through with getting the other leg treated, as this is a huge pain! I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to be doing when I'm not walking around, since they discourage prolonged sitting or standing. Not like I can just walk around nonstop all day!

@Courtlynn I did, they said it would be fine just to take my time and be careful going up the stairs (I guess no running upstairs, but I don't do that anyway.) And the nurse I spoke to today said that they encourage walking as much as possible, but that every half hour I just need to get up and like walk to my kitchen or bathroom -- just enough to get my circulation flowing. That's more tolerable than pacing back and fourth for 4 minutes every half hour!

I sure hope so. Right now I am regretting going through with the procedure. The pain is not intolerable but it aggravates it to keep walking on it. All I want to do is kick back and elevate my legs but I have to keep getting up to walk. I'm tired of pacing back and forth through my apartment. Only 13 more days to go, 20 if I have the other leg done next week. Maybe it wouldn't seem like such a hassle if I were a more active person, but I'm a writer and spend most my time sitting at a computer... Which is probably how I got the varicose veins to begin with!

I understand a DVT is very dangerous. Good to know you will be able to shower again in just 3 days.

The main reason I wanted to have this done was to decrease my risk of a DVT, but in the process I put myself at risk of developing one from the procedure. I was told they are very rare though, so hopefully that won't be an issue. And yes, I will be glad to shower again!
