Halloween and Christians (want to celebrate?)

For those who do not wish to celebrate or acknowledge the holiday-just don't. The rest of us should respect their beliefs and admire them for taking a stand for what they believe.
For those of us who do wish to celebrate, but have been made to feel guilty about that choice, here are a few reminders:
1. There are always alternate celebrations like fall festivals and hobo parties.
2. Halloween did not begin with a bunch of devil worshipers holding human sacrifices in a satanic coven, as we have often been led to believe.
3. Evil exists every day. Just because we dress up in costumes and watch scary movies does not mean we are evil perpetrators. October 31 is not evil. It is another day.
4. God created every day, even October 31, we can always use any occasion to point others to His power, love, and mercy.
5. Every celebration is what we make it. We can have scary fun without embracing evil.

I have always loved Halloween and never considered it evil. I have made Halloween figures for years to decorate my home and river. I think it is a fun time of the year and this is the time I love to write scary poems. It is so much fun.

A lot of Churches around here have a Harvest party in lieu of Halloween and Trick or Treating and give out candy and play games. The kids get to dress up with a theme usually that is non scary.
