Background on my best friend's leaving

I wrote a post about my friend who is leaving to go back to Massachusetts tomorrow and how we were friends in Portsmouth, Virginia when we were little girls. We'd lived next to her mom for 35 years and her daughter would come to visit over the years. One day I was looking at some photos that my neighbor had and said, "Hey! Who is this little girl in the picture? I have a photo of me almost identical to that." She said that was her daughter when she was queen of her class in Portsmouth. I said "I was queen of my class too!" We talked some more and found out we had lived in the same neighborhood, played together and were even in the same elementary school. All those years I knew that my neighbor had lived in Portsmouth, but it's a big city. What a small world! My neighbor had been married and lived with her husband and daughter there, then when he died, she got reacquainted with our neighbor who lived alone in the house next door. He and this lady had been sweethearts before World War II. By the time he came home from the war, she had married. He never married and when he heard that she was widowed, they started dating and got married. What are the odds that the mother of my childhood friend in another state would marry our next door neighbor? And all the years that her daughter came to visit, we never knew we were best friends as children. I hope she'll decide to move to NC....we already have that long ago connection and we already are best friends. The photo is of me when I was queen of my class. (I'm the tall one!)
