Long time ago, maybe 30 years, all houses that you can see in the villages are made of cogon grass as roof, bamboo as walls and floorings, woods as posts and with an area of about 4 by 4 meters. The floorings are elevated 1 meter from the ground, there are only two rooms that includrs the salas where the family sleep together and the kitchen where the stove made from mud, earthen water jar and all needed for everyday living are stored. Small as it seems but the yard is wide where different kinds of local vegetables, local fruit bearing trees, flowering plants and chickens can be found. Fast forward now, those thungs are gone. We are living with bungalow, cemented, building, fiberglass, condo and modern house of today. Photo is mine

Life was a lot simpler back then and people made do with what they had. I would feel like having lots of outside space to grow food and stuff was very important. You will always have your memories.

@ilocosboy I would miss the open space and the feeling of being free to walk around and enjoy Mother Nature.

I wish I could have a country life. But I have lived in the city when I was born. Fortunately, I got the chance to visit my mom's village. It was so beautiful. The fresh air and clean water and the nature sound were so amazing!

I'm so pathetic about the next generation. I don't know if they will know what a tree mean

yes, i remember my grandparent's bahay kubo (nipa hut). there are stairs before reaching the door. there were 2 bedrooms, there is a curtain hanging on each doorway. we get water from the clay jar in the kitchen. the toilet and bathing area is behind the house. they have separate doors. you have to go down the stairs in the kitchen to go there.

That's exactly how bahay kubo looks like, a very typical Filipino home. Stairs are made from bamboo. But when cemented roads shoved through rural areas and so the house methamorposized to bungalow too.

@ilocosboy yes, it's a cement house now, but the windows are wooden jalousies, not glass, and the toilet is inside.
