Meditation!

I've gotten into meditation a couple years ago and found that I look at the world with completely different eyes than what I once had. It's as if my brain had made a complete switch. I no longer get angry (often), my worries and stresses dissipate much quicker, and I don't feel the need to dwell on negative feelings because they simply aren't productive. I am literally 50% happier of a person than I was a couple of years ago. I no longer have childish temper tantrums when things become chaotic at work and I don't really even get road rage anymore when the person in front of me is driving 20 mph. I feel that it's really slowed my mind down to where I can examine those feelings and why they would happen, as well as understanding the cause of them. When I meditate, I try to get into the deepest states possible, and typically do it laying down. I've found it pretty frightening at first when I would drift into lucid dreams or when I would hear the loud buzzing sound inside of my head (after researching, I've found that this is actually quite common, and normal in deep meditation.). So my question to anyone reading this is, Do you meditate? What are some of your experiences with meditation, and what sparked your interest into starting? P.S. I took this meditating dog photo off of google, it is not mine. I just thought it was a perfect fit for the discussion. Here is the link to it:

I cannot meditate Christian..my mind is way too racing all the time. Too many things going on and I have tried to meditate for a good 20 yrs..no dice. Instead I do yoga and tai chi which seem to work somewhat for me to help with the mind. Glad to hear this is working so well for you.

Silencing the mind can be tough! Especially if that little voice in there never stops haha

@Mr_Anomaly I think you should mention at the end of your post where you've got the photo from if it's not your own.

I am not really into daily meditation, only when I have the time and whenever I can and have the urge to do it. I started to look for ways to do it because it is interesting. Like you, the benefits show a decrease in being angry and such and it is indeed true when I did it for almost a month I was always quite happy as a lark and didn't really worry about anything. Now that feeling is kind of fading so I think I need to get back to meditating again. Will be attending a class or two maybe. I prefer a guided meditation. Maybe when I am satisfied that I can do it on my own I will do it on my own.

I get what you're saying, I don't do it everyday either. I've also had a bit of trouble with falling asleep while meditating, which can be kind of troublesome. Hope all is well!

Congrats!! Meditation is wonderful! I do a little bit everyday before yoga--I have a better session and my brain and body feel relaxed!

@fly802 There is a ton of different meditation music on youtube, try laying down with the lights off, closing your eyes and just listening to the music. You may find that your mind will start to wander, and that's okay! It takes time for your mind to start becoming quiet. For some people more than others. Eventually you will feel your body start to relax.. it will probably even go numb, which is completely normal. I feel that this is the easiest way to do it if you struggle to meditate. I would look for longer videos in case it takes you more time to settle in, at least an hour long video. Hope this helps! -Mr. Anomaly

I did meditate about 10 years ago and got out of the habit. then in 2014 I started up again for a few months. I tried again this year and found it almost impossible I just couldn't relax and go into a trance. I used to do it to try and help heal myself due to chronic med issues but I still have those.

@Mr_Anomaly My neighbours are very noisy and it is hard to relax as I know their dogs are going to bark or the kids are going to scream or slam a door. I'm waiting for them to do something. If I relax, I jump. I think that's the problem. Or the phone rings or someone come to the front door. It's hard to find a quiet time as I live in a very noisy street. I don't really relax here. Never have since the moment I moved in. I think you are right, I don't feel safe.

Hmm try listening to binaural beats on youtube, or Theta rythms while you meditate. those help me enter a trance state much more quickly and help out with ignoring outside noises (car doors opening, house creaking, cars driving by, etc.). It could also be the environment in which you meditate too, or maybe you do not feel safe or comfortable in your place of meditation... I can be easily distracted a lot of times, perhaps that is also what you're experiencing when you have issues going into trance..

I so agree that it'll change things. I have depression, and about the same time I started on medication last year a local women's veterans group offered a free course in mindfulness meditation, so I took it. I'm not as good at doing it every day, but I can definitely tell a difference. I was out of work for two months and it didn't even faze me. A year ago I would have been in super-deluxe panic mode.

It's as if you realize how little stress, strains, and pains in the physical realm actually exist when you step out of the box during meditation. There's a sense that none of it exists and that it's all a false format... not sure how to word it.. There's a sense of separation from all of it.. I suppose

No problem! It's good for the mind and attitude in my opinion... it just seems to make you generally happier the more and more you do it. I'm not sure why, I think that it just overall helps to clear out all the background noise that goes on in your head which helps you to relax more in your daily life.
