They certainly got it right with this one. People are, indeed strange. It's time for #7 in my Favorite "Strange" Songs series, which is basically songs with "strange," or some variation, in the title. In this case, "they" are The Doors, and "this one" is their classic, "People are Strange."
From their 1967 album, Strange Days, "People are Strange" was written by vocalist Jim Morrison and guitarist Robbie Krieger after the pair hiked to the top of Laurel Canyon in order to distract Morrison from a bout of depression.
The single performed well enough, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100. And why not? This is classic Doors, and one of their most popular songs.
"People are Strange" has been covered multiple times, notably by Echo and the Bunnymen for use in the 1987 movie, The Lost Boys. They took it to #29 in the UK, and #21 in Ireland. (Plus, Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek appeared on the track, contributing keyboards.) Tiny Tim, and Alvin and the Chipmunks both covered the tune as well, and Tori Amos has been known to play the song in concert, as has Evanescence.
I've linked to what would qualify as an official video.
Enjoy this classic!

A classic. I also like Echo's cover.

Oh, yeah, definitely did the song justice. They did a Doors tune all three times I've seen them, and it wasn't this one each time.

This is one of two songs I have pegged to appear in this countdown. And as Keith Sykes said, "I'm not strange, I'm just like you."
