Revelation of the Day

I had a very personal revelation yesterday. Honestly, I am surprised it took me so long to figure this out.
My husband has no patience with vacuuming. Yesterday when he was cleaning up some of the work he was doing on the bedroom redeco with the vacuum cleaner he was cursing and swearing like I have never heard him before. He always curses when he vacuums but this was on a whole other level and it scared me.
When I hear my daughter arguing with her boyfriend, my stomach turns.
As I heard hubby yelling the memories came back, memories of my first husband who would yell and swear and sometimes beat up on me. It has taken me 25 years to realize why this behaviour has bothered me. Also, I only ever saw my father lose his temper once and it scared me.
That doesn't mean I was a princess of a mom; I had my bouts of anger when the kids were little, but nothing like this. I think because so much anger was directed towards me I developed my own reactions of anger.
With all the uprisings in the world today, I am suddenly aware of my fear of anger. I never really thought about it before. When people ask me what I fear I usually say mice, or being alone, but I now realize that I really fear anger/expressions of anger. I suppose we all are. But this connection to my first husband is making a lot more sense to me now. When we can understand where the fear is coming from, maybe we can be less traumatized when we are faced with it again. I don't know. I'll see.
I just felt the need to share this because this is a big revelation to me. But please know, my husband would never lay a hand on me. He gets mad at inanimate objects.
I'm still afraid of mice though.
Have you had any revelations recently?

Honestly, we all deserve to be respected and should be respectful in return. Shouting at someone is not respectful (gosh, I sound like such a hypocrite sometimes). But as Dr. Phil says, we teach people how to treat us. If we let them treat like that then they will continue to do so. You were right to walk away. I wish I had.

@patgalca its very true like people who complain that they date men who have never taken them out for dinner or just to enjoy yet the first date you accepted it to be indoors.Dr Phil was so right in his utterances.
Good thing you still walked away from your first bad experience.

I don't think I've had any revelations lately, and any I've had in the past have been forgotten.
What does your hubby find so difficult about vacuuming?

I think you have been very insightful, and now you can control your fears a lot better. Not knowing what makes you uncomfortable makes the problem a lot worse. By the way I can relate to your husbands hate of vacuuming.

I'm more afraid of other people's anger. Even though I know my husband wouldn't hurt me, or nothing will hurt me directly in an argument between my daughter and her boyfriend, it's just the sound of angry voices that upset me and just realizing where that is coming from has taken a long time.

That is good that you have figured out what causes it.

@patgalca It's the "can't see the forest for the trees" thing, maybe.
