36 lbs of pears, and I've barely made a dent

I bought a box of green Bartlet pears on sale last week and have been waiting for them to ripen so I can preserve them. Pears ripen off of the tree, which is why you frequently see hard and green pears at the grocery store. I was going to can some last night, but that didn't happen. I did slice up several and put them in the dehydrator, plus a bunch went into the slow cooker to be made into pear sauce, but (as you can see) I still have several pounds to go through. Tonight we'll pull out the water bath canner and put up sliced pears in jars. It's actually an easy task, it just takes time and making sure everything stays clean. Peeling the pears is a little bit of a hassle, but doable. I think when the dehydrator's done, I might make a batch of pear fruit leather too. Do you like pears? Any pear recipes that I should consider?

You and @andriaperry have inspired me to do canning more. I'll have to try pears when I do it

@thislittlepennyearns Here you go! You can also use white grape juice instead of the sugar or honey syrup. I even tried canning pears in just water, but that didn't turn out very well. As much as I prefer to use as little sugar as possible, canning pears in water leaves you with completely flavorless pears.
Canning Pears; recipe and boiling water canner instructions, Regular sugar syrup recipe or try adding honey and a bit of vanilla.

Do you season pear pie like apple pie, or do you use different spices?

Yes I do pears. I make cinnamon pear preserves, I think I have the recipes on my blog . I was given a whole tree of pears last year. I make pear butter too, like apple butter.

I've made pear butter before too. One year I made a batch of vanilla chai spiced pear butter!

My grandmother use to make what she calls pear honey. It looks just like apple sauce, but it is made out of pears.

@spiderdust I believe you can cook it like that. It has been over 30 years since she made it last. I can't really remember how she made it.
