WARNING: The health system a serious health hazard! Is it possible that a health system can be a health hazard? Should we be cautious when seeking health care? "a paper that added up all the deaths caused by medical care in this country, including the hundred thousand deaths from medication side effects, all the deaths caused by errors, and so on. The author of the paper concluded that the third leading cause of death in America is the American medical system. What was the medical community’s reaction to this revelation? After all, the paper was published in one of the most prestigious medical journals, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and was authored by one of our most prestigious physicians, Barbara Starfield, who literally wrote the book on primary care" What do make of that? Are you concerned?
In my video Why Prevention Is Worth a Ton of Cure, I profiled a paper that added up all the deaths caused by medical care in this country, including the hu

We have just as many issues here, that my family and I have learnt to double check medicine given and go for second opinions. It is scary how dangerous health care can sometimes be.

So true! There are so many mistakes that happen. Once when my mother was in the hospital, they were going to give my mother a medication that my mother did not want because she had been moved to another floor of the hospital and her file was left with the previous floor. They moved my mother but did not bring her medical chart with her and without checking anything they were going to do something she did not want. Insane!

@bluesa Thankfully my brother was there when they were about the administer the medicine and was able to stop them.Imagine transferring the patient to another floor and not transferring the medical chart with the patient. What an asinine reason we were given for the goof! Sorry for what happened to your mom also.

@1hopefulman when my Mom was in and out of hospital last year and in ICU there were so many mistakes made, my stomach still clutches when I think about it. I started questioning everything. Sorry your Mom was put in that situation.

I just read this and I agree, especially with the blood thinners, I have seen Tony bleed for hours from them, once I took him to the E.R. and they counteracted them with Vitamin K, he took himself off of them and now he finally feels fine and the so called AFIB, caused from smoking, is under control since he quit almost a year ago. I avoid the doctors office as much as I can.

Me too! I am now on constant preventive mode. Some years ago, I personally had a little problem and it turned into a deadly one because of misdiagnosis and incompetence. I am not against medical care but I am aware to be cautious and not accept anymore everything they tell me or give me, blindly. Let the user beware!

One of the main reasons I personally am so proactive when it comes to Medical issues is the lack of Care and caring in this country. I see so many times where certain Doctors etc do not want to believe you when you say you are allergic to something, etc. and it does make it scary. Too many times unless you or someone in your family is able to speak up you have no control. Missing the Health Care from days of old.

I think that at one time people would join the medical profession because they cared about people. Now it is mostly about money and benefits that they get.

I must agree with Deborah on this. I'm thankful to be an American and have the care from some of the best doctors in the world. I have read this article, but have also read that the USA and Israel keep the best records and documentation in the world.

I am not saying that the American medical system is the worst but that so many people die from mistakes is a serious problem. I have seen serious problems with our medical system too. Let the care seeker beware!

@1hopefulman I'm very wary. That's why I use only the best doctors.

It's for both the doctors and the system to find out a solution and the patient to be more careful in choosing a doctor. We are facing the same problem in India.

It looks like it is is a world-wide problem. So we all need to educate ourselves in looking after our health and in choosing competent health professionals.

That's only the tip of the iceberg, my friend. Lots of people in America can't even GET healthcare because they don't have medical insurance and it's crazy expensive. People die of things like diabetes and asthma that can be helped. Why dont' we have government health care like every other civilized country? The insurance companies are so greedy. Now there is a bill in the Senate that could take access to healthcare away from 23 million people. I might be one of them, because I have a pre-existing condition- rheumatoid arthritis. My insurance costs would go up so high I would not be able to afford it, and I wouldn't be able to get treatment for the illness. That would be terrible. Thank god it looks like the monstrous thing won't pass.

I am not sure what to think about it. But I did read something interesting the other day. It said that America was not at the bottom but near the bottom of countries where women die as a result of childbirth. They say the reason is many of those women who die were not healthy whether it be from obesity to other health problems. The article surprised me.

No matter what happens I cannot live here alone so I still want to return to my homeland the US I will take my chances because the health care system here is that you better keep healthy or they are going to take you away and you might never come back.

It doesn't surprise me. Every day I see commercials for medications with so many side affects and then there are the lawyers who have brought suits against some medications. It's enough to make your head spin and wonder if what they are prescribing will kill you.
