A rope hammock is good survival gear. Keeping you above ground above the crawlies.

I slept in a hammock as a baby even. One day my grand dad saw a snake approaching just underneath where I slept and he took his shot gun and killed that snake.
You may not think having a few extra hammocks in your closet as good survival gear but think about the benefits of one.
1. Easy to pack and carry with you anywhere.
2. Easy to tie between two trees.
3. Takes little space in a back pack.
4. Keeps you above ground on cold days and keeps you above crawly things at night.
Can you think of any other advantages to having a few extra rope hammocks in your survival supplies?

I agree with you, everybody should have one in case of an emergency, jungle hammocks are readily available here and are sometimes street peddled.
