It's time to put this one to rest. @NJChicaa suggested a music series based upon MTV Unplugged. Unfortunately, I rarely had the opportunity to watch it, so I'm doing a countdown of my Favorite Acoustic Songs instead. We have reached #1, and the top spot belongs to "Malaguena," as performed by Roy Clark.
"Malaguena" was composed in 1928 by Ernesto Lecuona. While it is quite popular as an acoustic guitar piece, Lecuona recorded the song on piano. In fact, "Malaguena" remained a piano standard until Carlos Montoya turned it into an acoustic guitar tune.
In addition to Roy Clark, the song has been covered acoustically by Jose Feliciano, and Paco de Lucia, among others. In fact, on You Tube, there is a video of Charo absolutely nailing it. There are also vocal versions, and even college marching bands have been known to play it, particularly the University of Massachusetts, and the University of Minnesota.
I just happen to love Roy Clark's version. The attached link is to a video of Clark performing it on the 70's TV show The Odd Couple. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Funny story time: My guitar teacher said he wanted me to learn some Spanish songs.
Me: "Oh, like 'Tijuana Taxi?'"
Him: "No, I was thinking more like 'Malaguena.'"
Me: "Oh, yeah, I have that on a Roy Clark album!"
Him: (dumbfounded)
Great series!!

Roy Clark is quite a virtuoso. There is definitely more to him than Hee Haw.

Roy Clark was so good. I learned to play Malaguena in guitar class, but it doesn't exactlyl compare, lol. I always liked this piece.

Roy Clark seemed like just a funny goofy guy on Hee Haw etc but was a guitar maestro.
