Brain Dead

This is exactly how I feel after trying to figure out all this math and the way it is taught today. I have never in my life tried so many steps to just do a divison problem. However you cant just use division and multiplication to do it now. NO, now we use those plus, subtraction and addition. I swear my brain is going to explode! So this is called Divide Using Area Models. Anyone else have to teach this way or learn it like this?

They learn our way and then have to learn 2 more ways. It is so stupid. I emailed the teacher and told her. Then told her she needs to make time before next Wed to show it to Tessa. That we cant wait that long and get behind to that point. Waiting to hear back. But I have never. UGH. Who draws a rectangle to do division?! and takes so many more steps. Common Core is just stupid.

No one should have to learn this new math, makes no sense when it takes way longer and that is if you can figure it out even! I looked it up some more and yeah .. NO!

Sounds too complicated for me but I was pretty good when I was in school some 47 years ago. I did one year of university but found some interesting things to do and quit but at almost 68, I have no regrets about it or ever have.

I'm good at math when they don't throw this stuff into it. Why they have to learn something that takes more time is beyond me.

@Ithink They must have a reason for it.

@1hopefulman To make all children learn the same, problem is everyone learns differently and are not the same.

It doesn't matter about the old Math or the new Math, it was always my worst subject in school. I had to have a tutor for High School Geometry. It is a miracle I passed all the Math classes I had to take. It is a miracle I graduated from High School and College.

I have always been good at all my classes, however this new math is something I have to really look up, study and watch a few videos on to figure it out. Then try to teach Tessa. A challenge for sure! Thank goodness for you tube!

No, I've never even heard of this kind of division. Why they're changing this, I'm not understanding!

I don't know, I just know it is stupid. She has to learn 3 different ways, like teaching a kid 1 way isn't hard enough!

@kobesbuddy I just watched some vidoes and searched some on Common Core and I dont know I think it might be the dumbing down of the children. It really takes a toll on me when forced to do it and learn it to show her. I really feel like I got stupid!

@Ithink I believe they're making it harder for people to understand, on purpose!
