I looked up that math on youtube and only found it showing another way of doing it. The teacher wants us to do it her way which I did sit here for awhile and tried to figure out til I gave up. So not sure what to do. I did end up understanding the one I found. I still think it is stupid thou, taking something easy with a few steps to something complicated with at least 10 more steps if not more just does not make sense to me. Wish I knew someone that gets it!

I was trying to figure out how to get the video or whatever here but have yet to figure it out! lol Then I went and got sidetracked listening to how and why Common Core came about. So still need to figure out how to do it here.

@Ithink I just checked common core math (youtube), I know what you mean now. Hmmm, which way your kid prefer, then that is the one to go for I guess . (But kids at a younger age tend to be frightened of their teachers).

@YrNemo She likes the old way but the problem is they don't have a choice, they have to do it the way they are told. Well we kinda home school so she isn't afraid, seeing I'm her teacher most of the time but we have to follow the Pacyber standard which is the online school we are using.

Teacher matters a lot. Try to learn from a classmate or a friend the concept and everything.

I wrote the teacher and no reply, so it is left to me. Teachers don't seem to matter much when you need help and cant get it. So I am the teacher totally even thou she is suppose to have an online one.

I am thinking that as long as she know how to do it and passes tests I would not worry about it.

That is the problem she doesn't know how to do it their way and you have to show the work their way. Say the problem is 28 divided by 2 .. you are not allowed to just say 14 you have to show the work in the Common Core way. Normally the questions are 3476 divided by 15 .. so then it becomes like 50 steps if not more. Not kidding either! Wish I knew how to link a few you tube things here to show what I mean. I think I'm getting dumber and brain is turning into mush on trying to learn anything new now!! lol
