The Orange County auto show is going on right now, and they were talking about it on television this evening.
They showed a wide variety of autos and then discussed what a large market there is for cars in Southern California.
With all our 12 to 16 lane freeways and constant gridlock in traffic, I already knew we have a lot of cars here. However, this statistic absolutely amazed me:
MORE NEW CARS ARE SOLD IN TINY ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA THAN ARE SOLD IN 24 STATES!!
If you look it up on a map, you will see that Orange County is very small ... not nearly as large as Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, which surround it. What an amazing number of cars are sold here!

I think because many of the huge "car supermarkets" are located in the OC.

@JohnRoberts - Yes, we have a number of auto centers in Southern California, and they are like car supermarkets. There is one about two miles from our house. It just never occurred to me that our tiny county could have more new car buyers than many other entire states!

That is a grip of cars and our freeways show it everyday.

@crossbones27 - Yes, our freeways are overwhelmed with all the cars, aren't they?

@DeborahDiane I was under the impression that there were only very well off people in Orange County.

@marlina - I think a lot of people believe that. Along the coastline and in the towns of Newport Beach, Irvine and Huntington Beach there are a lot of well-to-do people. However, further inland and in hundreds of apartment complexes, there are a lot of immigrants and working class people. Those rich people must be buying a LOT of cars!

@marlina - Yes, there are many wealthy people in Orange County. However, we also have areas of the county which are poor and there are a lot of immigrants living here. That is why I was so stunned that a tiny county like this one could be a major buyer of new cars!

@YrNemo - The very first Disneyland is in the middle of Orange County. It is about 20 minutes away from where we live. However, Disney has become very expensive. We used to go there every year, when our children were younger. However, now that it costs over $100 a person, it has been at least eight years since the last time we went.

@DeborahDiane Has OC become a suburb for the rich then? I try to figure out why more new cars got sold there.
