Bad Literature

Studio C does a skit mocking how bad literature is published. Even though it is satire, it is also truth. As much as I love books and reading, I have found there are some books that are just pointless. I have no idea how they made it on the best seller list or why some are considered classics and are mandatory reading for educational purposes. For example, in my opinion, GRAPES OF WRATH is one of the most depressing books written. Why would children in high school be subjected to reading this. How does it empower or grow them? I guess it boils down to people's personal taste. Still, its an enigma how some books have become best sellers. Does anyone have any other examples?

I guess best sellers have the most simple and understandable way of expressions written in their books. For me, I usually gets attracted to books with realistic ideas that can help me like "The secret of success" so catchy
