Favorite New Model Army Songs #7 - "My Country"

This particular music series, instead of a theme, celebrates one of my all-time favorite bands: New Model Army, with #7 in the countdown: "My Country."
From their 1985 album, No Rest for the Wicked, "My Country" is not really a protest song (as I mentioned yesterday, New Model Army can write the hell out of a protest song.) Instead, this is a highly patriotic tune. Granted, it's British patriotism, but (especially these days) I'll be willing to bet a lot of Americans can relate to the lyrics, which are less about war than it is about fighting the situation from within.
"My Country" was not released as a single, but man, is this a great song. I've used it before, but I couldn't help but use it again. Yes, it's that good.
The link is for the album version. There is no actual video.

I thought this was going to be Midnight Oil.
Cool to hear another band sing about their country. Like the different take to how Midnight Oil wrote theirs. This has more of that punk rock attitude where Midnight Oil was more of a patriotic anthem. This has what people hate. Calls out what they dislike in order to try to make their country better.
Never understood how people could get so offended on stuff like this. Never say anything bad about your country or you hate it. Makes no damn sense. Why nothing ever changes either because you have to agree with everything your country does right or wrong. Not exactly going to make your country better like that.

Yeah! I remember when you posted this in response to “God Bless the USA” as one of my “songs that make me cringe.” Hokey patriotism versus this song....doesn’t hold a candle, does it?

@TRBRocks420 — taste is personal, and it’s all good. I find it hokey. I’m glad I wasn’t in the Navy when it was a hit because I probably would have been bombarded with it. Getting “In the Navy”twice in boot camp was bad enough.
