Cat Question

Does anyone know what would cause cats to run off after they have been spayed/neutered? At least, I am assuming they ran off. All of these fur babies in the picture were mine at one point. After they got old enough, I had them spayed/neutered a couple at a time. I use to rock them to sleep. I miss them so much, but they all disappeared within 3 to 4 weeks of being fixed. I don't understand it. Would someone steal them? I live in the country, so I don't know who knew I would have all these sweet babies. It just annoys me. Now I have 2 more that need to be spayed, but I am scared if I get it done, they will disappear too.

Maybe you have other predators around you... ones that will take a young cat by surprise and then kill it?

Do you take them to the vet and they escape from the vet's office or do they get spayed at home? At home they would run and hide. I have never heard that one. I had my dog spayed and she did not run away except one time when we were coming up the stairs I took off her leash and she ran down the stairs and out the door because I knew what was going on. I looked all over for her and could not find her. She followed somebody with a dog coming to visit our upstairs neighbor at the time and the neighbor brought her home to me. My cat before Sophie I got spayed and she did not run away. Sophie did not run away either. Maybe it was too much for them and they could not handle it so they ran. Talk to whoever does the spaying and ask them what to do.

I was always 2 or 3 weeks after spaying/neutering that took place at vet's office.

You are suppose to spay or neuter when they are kittens. I do nt know why they would run off.

If they're outdoor cats, even after being spayed and neutered, they like to hunt and stray @gnatsmom . Being in the country, possible predators will kill them. Unless they 'know' to come to the house to eat, they can wander. It's still a good idea to have the 2 remaining ones spayed/neutered; just don't let them outside.

Spaying or neutering has absolutely nothing to do with your adorable kitties running off. I'd be more afraid of predators getting them. Sooooo sorry. Please keep them in the house or go outside with them like I do with mine.

I do keep them inside. They found a way to sneak out through the basement. By the time we found where they were getting out, it was too late.

I have read somewhere that there are several reasons for cats to go out and wander. One of them is if they're not spayed or neutered, another is food, another is when they are experiencing some illness. You know cats hardly get sick right because they hardly show any symptoms. But I've read that when they get sick, they also wander off.

I have the same thought. I can't sprayed my Rose because her kittens don't live longer than I expected.
