What would you do? Las Vegas shooting edition.

My friend and I were talking about the tragedy of the Las Vegas shooting and I thought this topic was interesting. In the reports of the shooting there are many tales - sometimes people trampled others, desperate to get out of the range of the shooter. Other stories bring tales of people who went above and beyond out of their way to help others. People laying on top of others, willing to take a bullet for them. People who stopped to drag injured over to the sidelines, or give first aid - in the midst of being shot at. I wonder what I would do in such a situation. Not that I ever want to find out first hand. I believe that if it is my time to go - I would have been shot either way - if I were running away or if I were helping someone. So I would hope that I would help people. But who knows. In the shock and commotion I may well have just run. I would certainly hope that I wouldn't be the one trampling people. What do you think you would do? Tales of Heroism during the shooting
Witnesses described concertgoers and first responders helping strangers amid the deadliest shooting in U.S. history

I have no idea what I would do, but I would hope that Army training would kick in and I'd try to help someone.

Oh that's right -- I forgot for a second that you served. Thank you for serving your country. :-) -- That comment just made me think of the unsung heros - the army medics.

@FayeHazel - Definitely. My friend's dad was a medic in WWII.

@teamfreak16 Oh my goodness. The things your poor friend's dad must have been through. Thank God for people who serve in that capacity

It’s hard to play what if in advance because I’m sure at the moment I’d be terrified and try to get out safely as possible and whoever along the way I can help run with me. Or if I know I’m at a safe place and can help I will try. But it’s always uncertainly because there could be multiple shooters or something.

True, it is hard to tell what one would do in such a situation. While I panic most of the day, every day I have been told I'm calm in an emergency... but still...

I don't know what I would do, but it's likely I would do what I can to help.

I would grab the hand(s) of whoever I went with and run. And them or a little kid would be the only ones I'd lay my body on to protect. Buy i too hope i never have to be in that situation and find out.

That's what my friend said too - stop to help a kid -- the good thing there, depending on age and size, I think a kid you'd be able to swoop up and carry.

That's a tough question. I would hope I would help others, but in a situation like that it's hard to really know for sure.

@FayeHazel I have thought about that, and have decided to stay away from large crowds.

So true... maybe by thinking about it ahead of time - one would help if ever in a situation like that. (But let's hope nothing like that ever happens)

@fishtiger58 True... I don't enjoy crowds anyway, though sometimes unavoidable.

It is not possible to imagine that in such a situation what one would have done on the spot. It could be anything from saving our own life to helping someone more needy than us.

Unfortunate, but I think it's good to think of these things, just incase it ever happens, though hopefully not - never

Truly, I don't know what I would do. I also say that when it is our time it is our time, so I hope I would try to help if I could. But I also hope I am never in such a situation.

I'm the same with believing if it's my time no matter what I do i would get shot. I would hope that I would try to keep whoever is with me safe or if I'm running at least stop to help someone if they need it.

That does seem to make the most sense. I think when it is our time, there is nothing we can do. I would hope that I would help to drag someone to safety , or something

If I happened to be there with my son - even though he is a young man taller than myself, I would shield him if I could . In any event, I might succumb to a heart attack from the shock of it all.

I'd like to think that I would be one to help others. But, under fire, who knows? Personally, I don't believe there is a certain "time" for any of us to go, it just happens.

Me too! But it's true -- between flight, flight or freeze I'm not sure what I would do. Perhaps you do have a point - perhaps there is no set "time" for anyone to "go". Or maybe for some there is and for others not... I'm not sure, but sometimes I like reflecting on such things
