More Atlantic Hurricanes Could Be On Their Way

Hurricane damage from GoFundMe for Hincapie Family

Because of Hurricane Nate, I turned on the Weather Channel today to see if there had been much damage along the Gulf Coast. Fortunately, other than some flooding and the loss of electricity and other services in some areas, Hurricane Nate did not do as much damage in the U.S. as we saw from the other hurricanes. However, Nate is not finished with us. It has caused a number of tornadoes which will also damage property and endanger the lives of people. Just as frightening, the Weather Channel reported that another Tropical Depression has formed in the Caribbean near Puerto Rico and could also head towards Florida. It could become Tropical Storm Ophelia if the winds become strong enough. There has been 9 consecutive hurricanes hit North America, which has not happened since 1893! Any more storms will put even more stress on that part of our country. This has been a rough year for people who live in the Southeastern United States and our island territories like Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. However, our country is not the only one which has been affected. We have a family friend who moved to Costa Rica to teach school. One of her friends in Costa Rica lost her home, car and pet dogs when Hurricane Nate caused a mudslide there. You can see pictures of the damage at the GoFundMe page for her family. I used one of the pictures at the top of this article. The link is below: https://www.gofundme.com/hincapiefamily

@changjiangzhibin89 - We don't get hurricanes where I live, but we get earthquakes and forest fires. California has more than a dozen fires burning throughout the state right now.

Thank goodness we don't have to deal with hurricanes in California.

@DeborahDiane But all the rain from a hurricane would put out all those fires!

@JohnRoberts - The fires in the Anaheim Hills and in Northern California are bad enough today. I'm glad we don't have to deal with hurricanes, too.

@marguicha - Yes, hurricanes are devastated and this has been a terrible year. I heard today that we could have another hurricane in the coming week. This seems to be too much!

I heard Nate had done more damage with loss of life to Mexico than it did to the US. I didn't know it also caused damage to Costa Rica. I'm sorry your friend lost her home, car, and dogs.

@just4him - We are hardly getting any outside news right now, because of all the fires. It is overwhelming! I hope the hurricane stays off-shore.

It has been the darkest year for hurricanes since 2005 when Louisiana was hit by Hurricanes Cindy, Katrina and Rita.

@Deepizzaguy - Yes, this has been the worst year for hurricanes in more than a decade. It is going to take a long time for some of these people to recover.

The rain we are having today is the final remnants of Nate. The picture shows a devastating situation for this family.

@1hopefulman - Yes, that picture shows how badly affected those people were. What a terrible, dangerous situation for them. I am glad they survived. They were in the home when the mudslide started!

@DianneN - This has been a crazy year. I heard today that Hurricane Ophelia is likely to hit somewhere in Great Britain. The GoFundMe account has helped out the young family in Costa Rica. They have raised over $7000 which, along with their homeowner's insurance, should help them get back on their feet. They are truly grateful they survived. They were in the house when that mudslide hit, so things could have been much worse for them and their young child.

@DianneN - Every day, when I watch the news, I am overwhelmed by the number of homes which have been lost this year in the US ... from the California fires, the Houston flooding, the hurricanes which hit the Florida Keys, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The cost to private individuals and the insurance companies must be staggering. Then, of course, there are all the cars which have been lost. I am also glad that the young couple in Costa Rica are being given a chance to recover. It is just one family, but it makes me feel good to know I helped one family.
