One great thing about music is that you can name your band anything you want. And as long as the music is good, anything goes. I'm counting down my Favorite Band Names in this particular series. We'll start at #10: Ned's Atomic Dustbin.
Formed in 1987, Ned's Atomic Dustbin hails from Stourbridge, England, and, after a five year hiatus and a lineup change, are still at it, and again with the original roster. They were part of Britain's Grebo movement of the late 80's/early 90's (remember that term. There are two more Grebo bands in the countdown.)
The band took their name from The Goon Show, a British radio show starring, among others, Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan, that ran from 1951 to 1960. In addition to inspiring the band moniker for the Ned's, the show was highly influential on Monty Python, Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,) and Firesign Theater.
As for me, I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to envision just what the Atomic Dustbin might actually look like. Luckily, the music is good enough to justify the effort.

And just who is Ned lol? The Goon Show was the original kind of mad skit show. Also an influence on SNL.

I didn't even think of SNL. Good point.

@teamfreak16 the first time I heard about the band, I was immediately drawn to the name. I saw their album and bought it from the shelf without even listening to it first.

@allen0187 - I've done that too. I've also had good luck buying stuff based on the cover art.

I had to look that term up. I see one of the bands whose names might make it.
I also listened to "Happy" from them. I'm trying to envision a logo/t-shirt!
