Why is there so much suffering in the world? There are THREE basic factors. The first factor is PERSONAL CHOICE! What does that include? Well, just think about that! Galatians 6:7 says it very well: “Whatever a man is sowing, this he will also reap.”
If a person CHOOSES to smoke, drive recklessly, or gamble, or any number of other things that can bring him harm, then that person must bear the responsibility for any suffering his personal decisions may cause. A person could also suffer because of the selfish choices that someone else makes.
Humans have perpetrated the most disturbing evils on other humans, such as war, murder, rape, and child abuse. Many times, we hear about these atrocities that bring suffering to others. Certainly God did not “ordain” such things as this. But, WHY do these things happen?
Romans 5:12 answers that question: “Through ONE MAN, sin entered into the world and death through sin and thus death spread to all men, because they had all sinned.” The first man, Adam CHOSE to disobey God and brought sin into the world and all humans inherited that tendency to sin.
Humans were given by God, “FREE WILL” the right to choose for themselves how they would live their lives. We still have that choice.
Many people make really BAD CHOICES and this brings much of the suffering in the world today.
What will the future be like?
How long will God allow the suffering in this world to continue?
When will this promise be fulfilled? Psalm 37:9-11
“For evil men will be done away with, but those hoping in Jehovah will possess the Earth. Just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more. You will look at where they were and they will not be there. But the meek will possess the Earth and they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.”
That’s a promise that God made to mankind. Jesus repeated it when he said: “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth.”
It will be a cleansed Earth that the meek inherit. Wicked men will have been removed and the Earth will be restored to a Paradise.
Jesus told us to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and his will to be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Jesus would not have told us to pray for something that was not going to happen.
Jesus spent his time on Earth teaching about this Kingdom. All you have to do is open the Bible and read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It tells all about the Kingdom and what it will accomplish.
Stay tuned for Part 3, the next factor, that explains WHY there is so much suffering in the world.
