At what age should children leave their parents home and be on their own?

In India, it has been the practice due to affinity towards family member, children continue to stay with parents until he completes the University education and finds a job. Some go out of the family and search for jobs, some stay till marriage and some will never leave the parents. Parents want them to stay with them. Some go separate after marriage. It is not at all objectionable, and no parents considers it as pain. It is because the family as an institution is very strong in Hinduism. It is rare to find broken homes, divorcees, home for aged insitutions etc.
