Every band wants a catchy, memorable name, and there are some doozies out there. And that's where I come in. We are at #8 in my Favorite Band Names series: Ozric Tentacles. Led by guitarist/keyboardist Ed Wynne (an extremely underrated guitarist, by the way,) Ozric Tentacles formed in Somerset, England, in 1983. The story I read years ago said that the band was sitting around one day naming fake breakfast cereals when somebody said "Ozric Tentacles," and it stuck. Always trippy, Ozric Tentacles is part prog, part fusion, and part jam, and are often classified as space rock, as well as a great live band (I have seen them twice. They are fantastic.) They are essentially a festival band that started out setting up and playing in the festival parking lots, eventually working their way onto the festival stages. On a personal note, I got to meet Ed Wynne after the second time I saw them. We were allowed backstage so that Wynne could sign our poster. We got to take a couple puffs from his personal spliff while he signed. It was so cool. The video is the band playing their song, "Jurassic Shift," live in 2007. If you are a guitar fan, or if you love a great bassline, you might dig this. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Great bassline you say? I 'm going to go listen. -- as for the cereal? I thought "Hotel Pepperoni" would be a great band name

After watching Animal House a hundred times, I thought "Fat, Drunk, and Stupid" would be a good name for a punk band.

@teamfreak16 Lol. That one could have the tagline of "It's up to you to decide which one is which"

I do like the "psychedelia" throwback playing on the projection screen, giving a nod to the roots that you can definitely hear.

Was "ozric" a made up word?

Apparently, "ozric" is a Viking word that means "divine energy."
