Favorite Band Names #4 - Afternoons in Stereo

I am counting down my Favorite Band Names in this particular music series, because face it, some groups have cooler names than others. We are at #4, with possibly the coolest name of the lot, Afternoons in Stereo. From Toronto, Canada, Afternoons in Stereo is essentially DJ/multi-instrumentalist/graphic designer Greg Vickers. Counting two remix albums, Vickers has nine albums under his belt, as well as four EP's (I have the first four albums on my iPod, and they get heavy play.) 2006's Leaves of Brass won the Hamilton Music Award for Best Electronic Album, while 2008's The City is Sleeping won the HMA for Best Instrumental Album. With a groovy, smooth, yet funky sound, Afternoons in Stereo are a bit of a throwback to the glory days of acid jazz, and would have more than held their own against the giants of the genre. A bar in Downtown Denver used to host a weekly acid jazz night in the 90's, and this would've fit right in. Vickers hosts a weekly radio show called Urban Modernists, focusing on both classic and modern jazz, funk, and fusion. Urban Modernists, however, is also a perfect description of the Afternoons in Stereo sound. I've linked to a song that is new to me: "Eames in Dub," and man, is it good! Enjoy!
