Self-medication: Are you for or against this practice?

October 15, 2017 10:30pm CST
This is something of cultural scope (please, correct me if I'm wrong about it)... Everywhere in the world, in some specific places (of course) there are always people who self-medicate themselves for various reasons. What do you think about that? Would you do this?

We all do it, if you think about it. If a doctor prescribes something, people either take it as prescribed or, more likely, don't take it or take too much of it. At least half of people fall into that category. I'm guilty: I can't take the leg cramps from the statins, so I wouldn't take it. My doctor, in turn, prescribed a lower dose medication and said I could take it every other day if the leg cramps got too bad. So I'm not taking it prescribed, but I'm following doctor's orders! As for going to a friend for medication ("Hey, I think I have this, can I have a couple of your pills?"), I wouldn't do that for a winning lottery ticket and the keys to Ft. Knox. Too dangerous.
