Oct 23- My cat became a murderer

There was a bird nest up in the tree outside my house. A few weeks ago, I had heard of little birds chirping in the morning for their mommy bird. I guessed that she was looking for worms or insects to feed them. Yesterday, my old cat, OUT, had a crazy mood. I don't when she did it but this morning, she had killed the mommy bird, because I found the body with bites on her body, near the veranda of my home. In addition, my old cat was sitting nearby, licking her paws. So, she MUST be the mommy bird murderer! I also found the bird's nest just below that tree. What happened to the baby chicks? No idea either. Do you think that OUT swallowed the chicks? This is the first time OUT did such cruel act. I give her cat food everyday as usual. Maybe this is a cat instinct to kill birds? My photo: the empty bird nest

Oh dear @peachpurple . Yup, I think instinct took over. I use to feed a stray that would come by every day for it's food and no sooner would he finish eating (can & crunchies), he would see a rabbit or bird and within seconds, it would be dessert I guess.

Cats have a natural instinct to kill birds and rodents.

Hard to tell for sure but with what you wrote, you could be harboring a murderous cat!

Maybe the cat just needed some different food for a change. A new recipe of food that you have not given him and it was close by so he made a good taste of it.
