Favorite "Wild" Songs #5 - "Wild Flower"

As is often the case, I am joining in on the fun of a @FourWalls music series. This time, it's songs with "wild" in the title. We're at #5 in my countdown: "Wild Flower," by a band that regularly shows up in my countdowns, The Cult.
Up until their 1987 album, Electric, The Cult were actually classified as a goth band, believe it or not, albeit a goth band with arena rock tendencies. With producer Rick Rubin in charge, the band dropped the whole goth thing on Electric, making instead, a muscular rock and roll record.
And that album doesn't get much more muscular than the leadoff track, "Wild Flower." Comprised of loud, crunchy guitar play from the severely underrated Billy Duffy, "Wild Flower" would have made a perfect AC/DC tune.
The song was the album's third single, and performed decently, reaching #24 in the UK, and #34 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. It was also used in the British film, The Business.
What can I say? The Cult is one of my all-time favorite bands, so I do use them a lot in these music series. I've linked to the official video. Don't believe me about the AC/DC comparison? Close your eyes and listen. Then tell me that "Wild Flower" wouldn't have been perfect for the Aussie band.

Love this song and does have some nice AC/DC style guitars. Always a cool band to hear.

I've owned it on both cassette and CD. I like Love better, but Electric rocks a little harder. A great album.

You're right about the AC/DC reference.....I could hear Bon Scott singing that. Rick Rubin sure can spin some magic on people, can't he? (See: American Recordings by Johnny Cash.)

He is definitely a great producer. Haven't heard anything he's helmed that wasn't good.

They are such a great band. Naturally, Trouser Press hates them.

I like "The Phoenix" from Love. It's like one long Billy Duffy guitar solo. I love that guy.
