My heart goes out to....

In my previous post I wrote about the fire that consumed my home. I feel selfish for just focusing on myself. My heart goes out to the people of Sonoma who also lost everything. You go through a lot of grieving and feeling like a non-person. You think of something you need and think that you'll run home and get it...but neither is there anymore. Then, in my case, you receive a letter from the cause of the fire and you dissolve into gut wrenching tears that don't feel like they will ever stop. The letter is telling you that the utility graciously left your utilities on and to be careful using an open flame or handling electrical appliances. I lost my furry family members!!! To some they may "just" be animals (a dog and 11 cats, all rescues) but to me they were family! Now, to top things off, my left knee has gone bad and I can't bend it without excruciating pain....as I sit here writing this and wryly laughing, I wonder what's next? But that's about me... those of you who pray, pray for those people who have lost their homes to the fires and hurricanes. You don't know what it's like until you lose everything.

It is so easy to take for granted what we have and forget to give thanks for those things, just as it is easy to read or hear about people losing everything and thinking that it can't happen to me. We at so surprised when it does! It only takes a second to remember to ask God to keep everyone safe in our prayers. Drop a few pennies in the collection can at the store for those who were rendered homeless by the hurricane or the Sonoma fire...every penny helps-both the people receiving the aid and you for giving the aid. Thank you for your prayers and wonderful thoughts they do do great good for my aching heart.

@BearArtistLady you are welcome. I agree no amount is to small. It all adds up and it is a good feeling to help others in need.

Again, I am so sorry. =( Thinking of all you lost in this situation is completely normal. It's not something to just get over and it's not something that gets better unfortunately. I will be praying for you and all of those who lost everything in the fires.

Thank you so very much for your responses and prayers!! They mean a lot!! If you were here right now you would be receiving huge hugs and a soggy shoulder! (I was warned that there would be a lot of tears through the recovery process.) I realized many years ago that things are just things and things can be replaced. 99% of my sorrow and anger are because of the loss of the furry lives. I took them all in because of some form of abuse by unfeeling "humans" who for one reason or another thought it was okay to hurt animals. I got them to trust again and because of the fire I feel I betrayed that trust. I am hoping that the money generated from the sales of the specially designed limited edition teddy bear I am making (I am a Teddy bear artist,, and have been one for thirty years) and donating to the local humane societies in my furry friends honor will help ease the pain.

It's hard to imagine how things must be for you, and I'm terribly sorry about your animals.
