When you think about a witch you instantly think about an old lady with a pointed hat and a big nose carrying a cat as companion mixing herbs in her cauldron. Centuries ago people lived in a poor hygiene, not taking too many baths per month or taking care of teeth and hair or washing hands. Bad hygiene increases the chance to appear sickness, the older Christian leaders from church believed it was just a punishment from God someone to become sick or mad. Witches discovered that they could heal from nature, using herbs and started to cure people using them, that’s why they had cauldron to mix herbs and brew potions. The brooms were used to clean places to start healing rituals, witches carried brooms with them and some people back in there believed they could fly using brooms. Because the Samhain festival was a festival people believed the dead could come back in life and believing something supernatural as the witches flying on brooms was just common as the dead coming back to life. Back centuries ago human trials were made by the church, the church leaders ruled what would happen with a person and only they could heal someone in need using the power of God and no one else. When witchcraft started to spread through lands by healing people the church become concerned it was a devil act. The church started to pursue those witches and hang them or burn them using firewood at public places to show villagers as an example not to deal with evil beings as they believed were the witches. Many people believed black cats were spirits from witches a witch would live inside a cat once she was dead and this belief passed up for generations, nothing of this is true of course the cat was just the women’s companion just like any other pet she would have acquired.

The funniest witch I ever saw was the late Spanish actress Angelines Fernandez who play the character Clotilde in the sitcom The Kid From Number Eight. Since she was elderly and an oddball and lived in the house number #71 in Mexico City. she was nicknamed by the kids "The Witch of 71."

Nice post. But does witch exist in real? I don't think so. Black cats are not the spirit of a witch. All these are mere superstitions. I don't believe in witchcraft at all.
