Already feels like I've never been away. Anyway. Brief explanation of where and what, how and why. Etc etc. OK here goes. Woke up on the morning of October 14th 2016 and just felt different. Can't explain it any better than that really. Didn't even rush to the kitchen. Took my time getting dressed and then just stood in room after room - just looking. And thinking. I hated this house. 17 years we had been in this house and I hated it. With a passion. Hate - a word I was brought up not to use except in exceptional cases. So not a word I used very often but hate this house I really did. 20 years ago this had been my dream house. Readers from a bygone age on Mylot will no doubt have some recall of pictures of our home and garden and most of the feedback from Mylot was really positive and back then in 2006 when I was 45 years old I was still congratulating myself on ever getting the house. November 3rd 1999 I asked Yvonne and Alan to jump in the Jag and I took them out to see my Dad who lived a mile along the road from my dream home. I drove the mile back along the road. Dad in the front with me and Yvonne and Alan in the back. My Dad had a few ponies in the adjoining field to my dream house so all 3 of them believed we were going to see the ponies. On arrival Dad and Alan got out of the car and went straight to the ponies. I went over to the house and started looking through the windows. Yvonne rebuked me!! So I asked her to close her eyes and just savour a wee pretend moment that this would be a great house for us. I took the keys and opened the front door and told Yvonne the door was open and suggested we have a nosey. In the lounge I asked her where she would put our 3 piece suite and when she pointed out precise positioning I said " Good. Now I know where I have to put it. " And that's how this love affair with the house I now hated had started. Fast forward again to last October. I picked up my phone. Gumtree. Properties to let. Brechin. Found one that looked really good. Phoned the contact number and he called me back on the Sunday whilst we were visiting a pal of mine in Tain ( just north of Inverness ). Arranged to view next day at 11am. By 11.15am it was done and dusted in my mind. I loved it. My enthusiasm was clearly evident. I was exploring. Now whilst all this was going on Yvonne stood in this quite compact and bijou apartment looking a bit shell shocked And she was in the same state when I returned having been shown the garden. She looked at me and smiled and simply said " new adventure " I gave our new landlord a £300 deposit and a months rent in advance of £300 and on the 21st November we finally closed the front door of Our Dream House for the last time . Next post will look deeper at the reasons why the change in heart about my dream house. The move.

A helluva lot smaller than the last one. We have gone all minimalist.

Well. Old home - detached cottage in 3 acres of ground. Third most affluent post code area in Scotland on outskirts Aberdeen. New home- compact and bijou apartment in the middle of a town and it was built in 1900 .The town is a bit run down and not very affluent. Photos of old and new to follow
