What Is Your Best Good Habit?

We talked a little about bad habits, but we all have good habits too. So what is your best GOOD habit?
For me, I like a clean house. I like for everything to be where it’s supposed to be. During the day, I usually put things away after I use them and I have to make sure that there are no dirty dishes in the sink before I go to bed and that the kitchen counter is clean.
I want my living room to be presentable at all times, in case I get unexpected visitors at my door. And I’m very particular about my bedroom being neat.
For a good night’s rest and sleep, the bedroom needs to be a pleasant, inviting haven.
I have found that keeping the house neat and clean keeps me calm. I assign particular chores for each day, so that by the weekend, everything has been taken care of and before I go to bed, I take the time to put everything in order, so that I can sleep peacefully without being concerned about anything.
Of course, my children are all grown now, so keeping the house neat is much easier than it was when I had children.
However, when I had children, they were always encouraged to keep their rooms clean and to put away their things before bedtime.
A half hour before bed time was used to make sure that everything was put away. Dirty clothes were taken to the laundry room and school work was placed on a table in the living room, so that it wouldn’t be forgotten the next morning.
I learned quickly that NAGGING doesn’t work. So, to make housework fun and exciting, we would have a “contest” to see who could get ready for bed the quickest.
Baths and brushing their teeth, were NOT included in the contest, because I didn’t want them to rush through that portion of getting ready for bed.
Baths were done after dinner. Then we usually played games rather than watching TV. Summer months were different, because there were more outdoor activities. We had a permanent volley ball court in the field in front of our house.
After snacks, brushing teeth was done.
The children soon learned that if they KEPT their room clean and put things away earlier they could win the contest. And they learned to help each other too, so that worked out well.
My children made a list of something they wanted to buy and they earned money towards the purchase, by winning the “contest.”
When everyone reached their goal, then we would go to the store and they could buy what they wanted. In the long run, this taught them the value of earning money AND the value of helping each other to achieve their goals.
My children still maintain these good habits for the most part, AND they appreciate my efforts to teach them good habits.
Two other GOOD habits I have: I also recycle everything that I can and I read something from the Bible every day.
What about you? What are your good habits?

That was a great idea you had and we do the same kind of things here too. A contest or a challenge always gets my kids motivated. Lol.
The one good habit I have is my time management skills I would say. I know how to get everything done in a timely manner and I still have time to do things I want to do during the day like being on Mylot. =)

Time management is VERY important. Very few people have actually mastered that good habit. So good for you!

@IreneVincent Thank you! I think most people just don't prioritize what's most important in their lives so that's where they struggle.

Hmm. Our house is always clean, besides the floors obviously and sometimes leave dirty dishes in the sink. Not a big deal to us.
Mine would probably be helping others

I try to do the best I can with everything each day. I clean up when needed, sometimes I am a bit lazy but I make sure I have all I need and my bedroom always has a very good aura.

Getting things done every day is a good habit. And having a pleasant place to sleep is very important for a good nights rest.
