I feel like giving up

If I do, I think it would be the first time in my life that I've decided not to finish a book!
I'm reading The Glass Palace by Amitav Ghosh and after about 100 pages I'm dreading reading it every night
I know that this alone should be a good enough reason to stop, but I can't think of any time in my life when I've given up on a book and I don't particularly want to change that now.
It's about 500 pages long so it's not like I can whiz through it in a couple of days and just get it out of the way, plus it's meant to be amazing so I keep waiting for the amazingness to hit me but it definitely hasn't happened yet!
I'd say that so far it's been 90-95% description/scene-setting, and while that obviously has its place I don't think I can keep reading if that's what it's like all the way through. There needs to be some sort of plot.
Has anyone else read it, or maybe something else by the same author, and can tell me that it gets better?

You're killing me.
I used to be like that. I was like, I bought it, I've invested time, so I'm going to finish it!
A couple of years ago I finally have up on a book, and it was a relief.
My sister does something funny with TV shows. If she watches more than one episode she then feels she has to see the whole series through.

This might be the first day of the rest of my life!
Another responder has told me that it's like this all the way through but there is a shock later on, so I might just skim it now so I can get the gist of the story without wasting time on the bits I'm not interested in

I read this book. The beauty of Amitav Ghose lies in the description of nature -wild and ocean and their concurrence with human life. You will not find any suspense in the book but at later stage some shock though i had guessed that l had apprehended it little before. His story moves in backdrop of certain historical event.Apart from this the another title i have read 'The hungry tide'.

Thank you! I guess it's just not my kind of beauty
I think maybe I'll keep reading now that you've told me there's a shock later (thank you for not mentioning anything specific
) but I won't take such care over it like I usually do when I read

If a book hasn't captured my interest after the first couple chapters, I just give up on it. No sense on torturing yourself just to get through it. Life is too short.
I have not read that book, but I tend to shy away from anything that is over 300 pages. Most books do not need to be that long. I will make exceptions if the book sounds really interesting or is a classic, but in general fiction should not be over 500 pages, in my opinion.
