from Sportsnet - Breaking News - " Roy Halladay, the Toronto Blue Jays icon who won two Cy Young Awards and was an eight-time all-star in a Hall of Fame calibre career, was killed Tuesday when his amphibious light-sport aircraft crashed into the Gulf of Mexico 10 miles from St. Petersburg, Fla., according to Pacso Sheriff Chris Nocco. He was 40. - I watched him sooo many times when he was one of our best starters for the Toronto Blue Jays , he will be missed by all his fans, friends and family

I'm wondering why he was flying below 300 feet, which is what is recommended @Luap1050 . I have a feeling there might have been a down-burst of air and because he wasn't at the 300, he lost control.

@Luap1050 What a waste of a life and such a sad thing.

You could certainly be correct Nanette , a nasty downburst in that small plane could have brought him much closer to the water than he intended very quickly

Sad news, is there anyone else on the plane with him?

No, he was alone , apparently, and I haven't seen the video yet , someone caught him doing stunts in the plane and flying recklessly before the crash . Michael Felger a host of a radio sports show really went on a rant about him being irresponsible to his family for flying a light plane period. I know some sports and hobbies are dangerous, but hey, we all gotta live the life we want - as long as we know he risks associated with them and are prepared to accept any consequences , agree or disagree?
