Learning to Swim-Day 5

A little over a hour ago, I've returned from my 5th swim lesson with Rachel at the gym on this cool fall afternoon. Today we revisited the front stroke, the regular backstroke and the elementary backstroke. We started off with perfecting my breathing with the kickboard, first stationary and then in the water. Our goal was to do a full lap without stopping, though I did it a bit past halfway (the lifeguard's chair) both way. I would say I'm getting closer to perfecting it by tilting my head to the left side than the right, with and without the kickboard. I would give myself an A and almost have nailed it. Then we've worked on the backstrokes for the second half of my half-hour. Once again, we had the same goal to go to the wall without stopping and honing in on my backstroke with my arms. Plus she wanted me centered in the middle of the lane and not hitting the lane barriers and the wall. But my breathing and my head placement is better. I still would give myself an A for that. As for the elementary backstroke, same deal with centering in the lane and not stopping with breathing for one stroke. I've almost done it. Still, almost an A+ in my book. Since I won't have class next Tuesday, due to my writer's group and lunch, I'll be practicing tomorrow and Monday morning. Tomorrow morning, I'll do 1-2 full laps with the front stroke. Monday, I'll do one lap with the backstroke and another lap with the elementary backstroke. I believe we'll be doing the other three strokes before and after Thanksgiivng weekend at my gym.

Nice that you are learning how to swim as it is great for health and it good to know. I tried learning but did not do well as I had a bad experience when I was very young. However, I do go swimming once every week but I keep a life saver close by or stay near the edge.

I grew up by the beach and learned to swim by myself at a tender age.
