The ever popular band Earth, Wind & Fire came together in 1969 in Chicago, Illinois. In time they became one of the most important funk and soul acts of all time. One of their all time big chart-toppers was “September” from 1978. Earth, Wind & Fire got their name from founding member and drummer Maurice White’s astrological sign. This talented member is a Sagittarius. The sign’s primary elemental quality is of Fire. The Seasonal qualities include Earth and Air. Since a combination of these words didn’t seem right then they changed the word air to wind. The band did the soundtrack to a movie about the dark side of the music industry titled “That’s the Way of the World”. They also made an appearance in this movie simply called The Group. Their soundtrack was a hit even though the movie wasn’t and was at the number one spot from three weeks. Songwriter Alee Willis co-wrote some of their hits including “September” and “Boogie Wonderland”. Earth, Wind & Fire got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995. At this time Maurice White chose to no longer tour with the band. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Earth, Wind & Fire gave a benefit concert in Virginia, raising money for the American Red Cross. They also performed at the closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. The band performed as part of a tribute to funk music at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California in 2004. One of their biggest fans former President Barack Obama had the band play at the Governors’ Dinner. Their eighth album Now, Then & Forever came out in 2014. The man who began it all Maurice White died on February 4, 2016 due to suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. How many Earth, Wind & Fire fans out there.

I love EWF. I saw them in 1983. It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
