Former Boston Red Sox infielder Bobby Doerr passes away at age 99

The Red Sox Nation is in mourning after the last member of the 1946 American League Championship team second baseman Bobby Doerr who passed away on Monday in Junction City Oregon. Doerr was 99 years of age at the time of his passing. He was the oldest Hall Of Fame member at the time of his passing. Former St, Louis Cardinals manager Red Schoendist who is 94 years of age is now the oldest living Hall Of Fame member. Doerr was nicknamed by his former teammate the late Ted Williams as the Silent Captain since he was quiet and reserved as a member of the Red Sox from 1937-1944 and 1948-1951. Doerr has number 1 retired by the Boston Red Sox in 1988 after he was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1986 by the Veterans Committee. .

Bobby Doerr was before my time even though I did see him on some sports shows called "The Way It Was." a long time ago.

Bobby lived a wonderful life playing baseball with the late Ted Williams and the late Dom DiMaggio among others on the Boston Red Sox during his time in the Major Leagues.
