Autism isn't an illness. It's a developmental disorder. The wires in the brain are not hooked up right..cannot be cured cannot be fixed with an operation. But people with autism can be helped to learn how to function in "our" world. I have been a parent of an autistic child for 14 years. She will grow up to do what she puts her mind to and she will do it very well..just at her own drummer.

SEE FIRSTLY AUTISM ISN'T AN ILLNESS....ITS DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDER. SECONDLY THERE IS NO WORD AS IMPOSSIBLE.IN TODAY'S WORLD WITH THE DEVELOPING SCIENCE'S THERE IS NO ILLNESS WHICH DOESN'T HAVE A CURE.... AND THE FOREMOST THING IS THAT THE GR8EST CURE OF ALL THINGS IS PRAYER....IT CAN MAKE WONDERS AND NO ILLNESS OR DIFFICULTY CAN SURVIVE WHEN THINGS COME TO GOD.... ONE SHOULD HAVE THE FAITH IN HIM AND REST HE/SHE SHOULD LEAVE ON GOD...I ASSURE U WILL URSELF SEE A MIRACLE. THAT'S MY FAITH...

And as you pointed out Autism is not an illness..while they are alwasy coming up with cures for ilness's..Autism doesn't fall into that category. The brain is a very complex organ of the body..removing a brain tumor is one thing...rewiring a brain to function differently is not a safe viable option.

Since autism is not a disease there is no cure. It's a disorder like eplepsy. The child/adult lives with it it. Sadly usually they withdraw into their world and are lost forever. Hopefully the government will find a way to help them.

I am a mother of Autistic child. I think we can try to improve their social skills by making them mix with kids of their age.children learn alot from their age groups than adults. my son learns a lot from my daughter than me. vocational training can be given to them so that they can be helpful and also a time-pass for them. lets pray god that they live an independent life. As far as I am concerned it is the ambition and goal in my life and prove that autism can be cured.I am working hard with my child.

That's a very interesting question. I have read testimonies where music therapy has greatly improved the success of autistic children and adults that had suffered a stroke.

The most Important thing to know, if you have a child diagnosed with autism, is early intervention programs, my son was 2 yrs old, when he was diagnosed, we got him into an early intervention program, even though he didnt talk till he was 6 we never stopped teaching him, we used to put a sign on everything in the house like table toilet ect and evrn the fridge, he would just stand in front of the fridge, i would point to the word and say to him say fridge and once he would at least try and say the word then i would open it, and praise him even if what he said didnt sound anything like it, he hated change so we would change his room round every week, this would upset him for a cple of days then he would be over it, he has hypersensitive hearing, couldnt stand the sound of hair dryers electric knives or vacs, each day we would introduce those noises till he got used to them, he hated to be cuddled, every day i would put him on my knee and cuddle him a little more each day, no autism cannot be cured, but they can be taught to cope, we now have a 16 yr old that can read and write talk and be cuddled and handle change, socially he has a long way to go but with continued work will get him there, puburty can be trying and can bring some set backs, but then you just start again, because you love them and they are worth it, they didnt ask for this condition,so its our job to help as much as we can

They can't be 'cured' although I've seen many children/adults with amazing qualities to their personality despite having autism.

My mom works with autistic children and there are several degrees of autism. Some kids can eventually learn to do things on their own thru repitition, but others are not so lucky, and may always need someone to take care of them. Unfortunately there isn't a cure for this illness, and until now many children were misdiagnosed because of the lack of knowledge in this topic. Recently this area has been getting a lot of media attention and hopefully will raise more awareness and research.

Autism doesn't have a cure, the only thing you can do if you have someone with autism in your family is to learn how to deal with it. People with autism usually lives in their own inner world, and the biggest problem is they have no social skills. But there are many diferent kinds of autism. You should talk to a doctor...

Autism isn't curible. It's a neurological developmental disorder. Those with autism have to learn how to live and function in a world that doesn't make sense to them.

Autism is a developmental disroder, not an illness. Autism cannot be "cured" as there is no one known causative factor to "fix". Individuals with autism must learn coping mechanisms to allow them to function in the world so many of us take for granted. Many studies support dairy gree, gluten free diets and nutrition as helpful to individuals with autism. My own son is dairy free and takes daily supplements. When he misses his vitamins, his expression of autism exacerbates. I feel there is a direct nutritional connection to the severity of autism.
