Some People Never Realize They Are Too Old For This

My boyfriend and I just ran into an old friend of his a while ago in Carl's Jr. We hadn't seen her in at least 5 years. She was a hot mess and seemed like she was on drugs, or at least caught up in the drama of hanging around others who are on drugs.
Instead of acting happy to see us (or at least him,) she didn't even pretend to care to try to catch up and exchange pleasantries. I could tell she didn't want to talk to us. She was very rude and just griped about how life is sh*t and it "never gets better."
It never gets better because she doesn't TRY to make it better. She's caught up in drama that she's too old for.
What's sad is she's a mother and she can't even pull herself together for the sake of her son. He no longer lives with her. She kicked him out when he was fourteen and now he lives with his grandpa.
After she abruptly dashed off to try to find a ride home, I commented to my boyfriend about how many of his former friends are like this. Caught up in drug-fueled drama and caught in an endless spiral of life being crap. Even if they themselves aren't using, they hang around people who do and get sucked into the never-ending cycle of drama that comes with that lifestyle. When will they wake up and realize they are too old for this crap?
If you are 40 years old and find yourself suddenly homeless because the guy you're with blew all your rent money on drugs, you have no one but yourself to blame by being with someone like that. If you're 35 years old and with yet another cheating boyfriend, you need to reevaluate the type of men you're dating and kick his cheating ass to the curb.
If you are in your 30s or 40s and using drugs, you have no one but yourself to blame by engaging in that lifestyle. I don't buy that whole "addiction is a disease" nonsense. No, it's a CHOICE. You CHOSE to use. Addiction is a side effect, a risk that comes with using.
Life is too short for it to be a never ending cycle of AVOIDABLE drama. But these types of people never realize that it's avoidable. If the company you keep does nothing but bring you down, then get away from them.
I have never tolerated drug users and won't hang around them. Life is too short and hard enough as it is without adding drugs to the mix.

I always get angry when I see people who live the party lifestyle become parents, and then continue right on living that crazy lifestyle. As soon as you bring another life into the world and are responsible for its care and upbringing, it's time to put the party lifestyle behind you. It's sad to see so many people continue down their destructive path because they are too selfish to give up that lifestyle and put all their effort into raising healthy, loving and outstanding children.

It makes me mad too. Those children never stand a chance, unless they are "lucky" enough to be removed from the home at a young age and adopted by a loving family with the patience to deal with the behavioral problems such children often are born with. I can't comprehend how anyone can justify continuing on the path of self-destruction once children are added to the mix.

@Srbageldog The second I found out my wife was pregnant, it was no longer about me anymore. It was about that child...doing everything I could to provide a loving home, and giving my baby a future worth living!

@moffittjc I don't understand how anyone could be so selfish as to NOT put the well-being of their child first. And yet so many people who shouldn't have children continue to have them, and it's just heartbreaking for the kids born into that situation.

I can't comprehend kicking your minor child out. And then in the meantime she's out running around like she has no responsibilities.

So sorry to hear about this friend of yours. Agree with what you said, some people just don't get over the hump and are forever caught up with drama that either they created or are part of.
