The first thing you should do is go back to the 80s where people actually used mainframes :-) It's not something that's really used today. Use your time on learning PHP / JAVA / asp .net / SQL / XML and others instead, that's the future :-)

No my dear friend. We still use mainframes today heavily...All airlines services, major banks, stock exchanges etc who ever has very huge business their all core data resides on mainframes as mainframes are the most efficient in processing...Java,ASP.NET do exist only at the front end for GUI based applications of the same businesses but at the back end it is Mainframe for every company tru which these new technolgies have to communicate...
ANd i feel Mainframe professionals are highly paid in terms of salary as there are less resources coz of the increased shift to the new technologies..

I don't know and I just know mini-computers such as AS/400.
I think u need to join some large companies which are using mainframes such as Banks.
