Day 49
Jeremiah 49:23
49:23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
24 Damascus is waxed feeble, and turns herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.
25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!
26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the LORD of hosts.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.
Have you examined your motives? What is your conclusion?
God examined Syria and found it wanting. Damascus is the capital of Syria and a place of much self-praise and joy, a pleasure city, that had no place for God and was an enemy of Israel. God dealt with Damascus at the time of Israel’s captivity. He will also deal a final blow to Damascus and Syria in the last days, as Syria still stands against Israel.
One by one God deals with all the nations that came against his people to destroy them, yet in all the centuries since Israel’s captivity, Israel still stands, and Israel’s enemies are confronted by God and the people who came against her are destroyed.
As Christians, you should realize how futile it is to stand against God’s people. Jeremiah shows the outcome of every nation who did so. There will be a final reckoning when God not only deals with all those who stood against his chosen people, but also gives final sentence to Satan, and God’s people will stand with Jesus as he rides forth to conquer the nations.
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever. (KJV)
God’s wrath was kindled once when he sent his chosen people into captivity and at the same time took vengeance against the nations who opposed his chosen people. His final judgment is coming, and will destroy every person who stood against him and his people. Then the longed-for peace will be upon the earth, and his people will rejoice forever more.
Let’s Pray: Father, examine me and see if my motives are right, and if they aren’t, help me make them right, so your fierce wrath doesn’t come on me. Help me stand with Israel, praying for her, befriending her, showing kindness, not because you demand it, but because I love you and I love your people. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

I love this! It really has me thinking of the song "The Gift". Its not always a mater of what you do but why. Its good to be good, because its the right thing to do. It doesn't mean a person giving 1000 for appearances is better than the person who gave a dollar...especially if the one giving a dollar only had that and gave up something to give it,

True. I don't think I know the song, The Gift. If I do, I'm not familiar with the title, which happens a lot.
