Is showing mercy a sin?

He was very poor and needed something to cover his body. He got two children and they were all studying. Though he works hard, it became difficult for him to cope up with the wants they actually need of. Having studied everything I gave some of my only-once-used clothes to him. There were some nice frocks also. I gave them all to his children. The neighbors have advised me to avoid of giving such things to that man as he was a drunkard and it is a sin to feed such people. I took no notice of it and expected some improvement in his appearance at least for the next day. But, to my surprise, he appeared in the same dress in another lane. Yes. I realized showing mercy is a sin nowadays.

Showing mercy is definitely not a sin. You could have asked the man how you could help him instead of just giving him something you thought would be right.

Yes. This sounds good. I have donated something which he is not in need of . This might be the reason. How are you Mr. M.L? I am searching your face recollecting your handsome and young appearance. You are not to be seen nowadays. Are you busy?

Showing mercy is not a sin rather to whom we are merciful to needs careful consideration. For example, when you go to a gurudwara for help, they never turn you away, especially for food and shelter. The langar hall is open for everyone. But they also do not encourage begging. They feed the homeless but they don't "facilitate" them so to speak. They put them to work in gurudwara to teach them the way of hard work and its importance and to encourage them to try to get back on their feet rather than living on street and begging.

This is really wonderful. Are you from Punjab? I want to visit Amritsar at least once in my lifetime. Hope it will happen by the grace of God.

@shivamani10 No I am not from Punjab although I am a Sikh. And you can go to Amritsar and stay at Golden Temple free of charge and food is available 24/7 which is free too.
