We have quite a busy day ahead of us tomorrow, so I figured that I would get these music countdowns out of the way so that I can do some catching up later in the afternoon. The theme of this series is songs with "Heaven" in the title, and we are at #6: "Monkey Gone to Heaven" by the Pixies.
From their 1989 album, Doolittle, "Monkey Gone to Heaven" is an environmentally conscious tune that also utilizes folklore and Bible references. It is also the first Pixies song to utilize guest musicians, in the form of cellos and violins.
"Monkey Gone to Heaven" was released as a single, and reached #5 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, but stalled at #60 in the UK.
My personal Pixies experience came at the 1989 Wertchter Festival in Belgium. We had quite a pogo pit going during the Pixies set. At some point, a guy and I slammed each other a bit too hard, and I lost my footing in the muddy field. As I went down, I knew I was about to get stomped by pogoers. Luckily, my buddy grabbed my shirt and pulled me back to my feet. And yes, I continued to pogo.
As great a live band as the Pixies are, I've linked to the album version. I hope you enjoy it.

I remember the band but not this song. I remember the dance also, I danced in heels.

You pogo'd in heels? That's impressive. I would imagine it would be hard to do.

@misunderstood_zombie - Were they boots, or regular heels?

It is. Too bad she's no longer in the band.

I know. I was surprised that Kim Deal is no longer in the band.
